So I decided to start moving away from always trying to create every-single 3D object for every-single project. It was becoming too time consuming, stressful and I would start to panic thinking I have a deadline..for myself?..and that was taking time away from my creativity. I've been struggling with balancing the creation of 3D art and thinking of ideas for a little while now. The execution then wasn't the best and I would try to make something else, never really finishing a project. But, the ideas never stopped. Also there's a lot of programs now for making 3D content and keeping up with them is a challenge in itself. So I am going to make something with a little bit of everything I know and will see where it goes.
My latest idea is to create a real-time interior/exterior customization experience, rather than a tool. User experience has always been my focus even when creating game art and how the player will interact with the space. When customizing a living space, there's a lot of questions and decision that have to be made. This is overwhelming, so why not make it enjoyable?
The focus of this project is to give users the freedom to explore interior spaces, exterior spaces or both at their own will being either for marketing or just personal customization to a current home/space. Attention to detail is important to me. I don't want to make expectations but I will make this as photo-real as I can with what I have to work with. I plan on incorporating virtual reality, ultimately enriching the experience. I also want to incorporate the use of interacting with the environment with more than just switching palettes or appliances.
I don't know programming what so ever. Basic concepts sure, writing? No. So I am going to try and put together some mechanics using GUI toggles and buttons. Then I'll find other scripts for what I need as I go.
The space I'm creating is a city loft. It is high up for a view, but not so much a "penthouse". Trying to keep it simple, I have a relatively open space throughout. I want to have as much light as possible in the living spaces so there will be a big vaulted ceiling with large windows to maximize that afternoon sun. The bathroom and office will have a skylight since its a tricky spot being under the floor above. This is my first living space design, so it may change as I go or I'll improve the layouts on the next space.
The overall palette of the space will be a mix of wood, marble, brick/stone work as my earthy tones accompanied by lots of foliage. Glass will play a part in bringing out the contemporary elements and the large windows will allow the sky colors to come in. Ultimately bringing everything together to make a cohesive scene both art wise and mechanics.
